Internet Use Policy:

All users are required to sign up for a block of time prior to use. You may call the library in advance to schedule your time.

ANY PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST HAVE A PARENT OR GUARDIAN WITH THEM WHEN THEY REGISTER TO USE THE COMPUTERS. The library will attach a sticker to the back of your library card when you register. All computer users under 18 must show this sticker to staff before they will be allowed to use the computers.

It is NOT library policy to monitor Internet use. Parents should be aware their children can access potentially offensive material on the Internet. Computers in the Children's area are equipped with filtering software, but it is the Parent's responsibility to monitor computer and Internet access.

Library staff do not provide training on computer or software use. They can provide a limited amount of help with actual problems. Lane Community College offers computer classes in Elmira and the library has some limited documentation available at the front desk.

Computer use is limited to 2 patrons per machine.

The following are forbidden and may result in the loss of privilege to use the computers in the library

  • Installation of any software on library computers

  • Using modem to place long distance calls

  • Saving data on library computer drives

  • Using library computers to play non-educational games

  • Accessing or altering operating system software or hardware
