Summer Reading Program 6th Grade and up
Programs are on Thursdays at 3:00 p.m.

When you've completed an activity listed below, write it down on a ticket. When 5 lines are filled, place it in the drawing box of your choice. Prizes will include items donated by local merchants, baskets of prizes, and a gift certificate to Valley River Center. Come into the library to find out more about prizes and what you can do to earn them. Turn in at least one ticket and earn a FREE book. A gift certificate to Borders Book Store will be given to top readers. Door prizes will be given out at each program

Activities (Yes, you can repeat all activities and use it more than once on a ticket)

• Read 100 pages of a book
• Listen to an hour of a book on tape or cd
• Read aloud to someone else for 20 minutes
• Read a magazine
• Read 3 sections of the newspaper
• Attend a library teen program

FYI:

• See the sample ticket for more info on how to fill them out.
• Remember, books have to be at your reading level; no fair reading books that are too young for you. If you have special reading needs, let us know and we'll make a note of it.
• Library cards are free for anyone living within the Fern Ridge Library District. Youth living outside the district can get a summer library card for $1.

Programs

• June 19th Pizza and Pages: Join us for some yummy pizza from Figaro's and hear about some cool books to read this summer.
• June 26th Clay Transformation: Join artist Andrea DiPalma and learn some new skills in sculpting clay. Make a creature going through an alteration or whatever you want. Your creations can then be fired in a kiln.
  **There will be 2 sessions of clay: One from 3-4 p.m. and another from 4-5 p.m. You need to sign up!!!
• July 3rd Wing rebirth: Make a set of wings you can wear to the County Fair or so you can morph into your own creature
• July 10th Fear Factor: Are you ready for a change in your diet? This is an all food event, see if you are up for the challenge. It's not for those with a weak stomach. Come and watch and cheer on those striving to be the next Fern Ridge Library Fear Factor Champion!
• July 17th Teen Chefs: Now time for some real food! The Lane County OSU/Extension Nutrition Education Program will bring some ingredients and you will make the meal. Come with an appetite!
  **Spaces are limited so sign up now!
• July 24th Murder Mystery: Sign up to be part of the cast or just watch and try to solve the mystery. Do you think you have what it takes to morph into a super sleuth?
• July 31st Drawing mutation: Local artist Kay Irish will demonstrate how to draw creatures or humans evolving into another form. Then let your pencil and your imagination go. This will be a 2 hour workshop from 3-5 p.m.
• August 7th Sundae party and a movie: Celebrate a summer of reading with ice cream and watch The Golden Compass (PG-13). This program will be from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m.
