Position Overview: Fern Ridge Library District is seeking an innovative, motivated, and community-oriented Assistant Library Director to join our team. This role will support the Library Director in managing day-to-day operations and will take the lead in developing, coordinating, and implementing dynamic programming for adults. This is an exciting opportunity to engage directly with the community and develop services that enhance educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities for adult patrons.
Key Responsibilities: • Assist the Library Director with overall library management. • Develop, plan, and promote innovative adult programming, including book clubs, workshops, educational courses, author talks, technology training, and other cultural or recreational activities. • Collaborate with community organizations and local experts to deliver relevant, engaging programs for adults in the community. • Assess community needs and interests to create programs that appeal to a broad adult audience, including seniors, working adults, and young professionals. • Manage program logistics, including scheduling, budgeting, marketing, and evaluation. • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services, as needed. • Act as the Library Director in their absence, representing the library in the community and at local events.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in library science, education, public relations, or a related field. • At least 2 years of professional experience in adult programming and community engagement preferred. • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role is an asset. • Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills. • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, community members, and external partners. • Knowledge of trends in adult education, recreational programs, and library services. • Passion for serving rural communities and enhancing community life through library services.
