About Emily Poole

Born and raised in the mountain town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Emily Poole has been exploring the wild spaces of the western United States since shortly before she could walk. Emily holds a BFA in illustration from Rhode Island School of Design and has created work for organizations such as Creature Conserve, HawkWatch International, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Her work has appeared regularly in High Country News, and she has been the illustrator on six natural history books, including BirdNote: Chirps, Quirks, and Stories of 100 Birds from the Popular Public Radio Show and Northwest Know-How: Trees. She lives in Eugene, Oregon and was voted 2025 Best Artist in Eugene by the Eugene Weekly.

About the Book

Poole’s most recent work, Cascade of Life: An Artist’s Seasonal Guide to the Wild Northwest, is a vividly illustrated book exploring the Pacific Northwest’s ecosystems through the seasons, featuring over 120 species, hands-on activities, and science sidebars. This is her first publication as both author and illustrator.
